The Shih Tzu is an adorable little clown of a dog who was bred to be a lap dog for Chinese royalty. Though that was thousands of years ago, they remain a very loving, loyal companion. The Shih Tzu is a sturdy, compact breed who can adapt to just about any situation, so long as he is indoors among his family. They get along well with children, cats, and other dogs. They are friendly, alert and playful. The Shih Tzu is only officially ONE size. The AKC and the American Shih Tzu Club of America do not recognize "Imperials," "minis," "Tea Cups," or "Pockets."
The Shih Tzu has a luxurious, heavy coat that requires daily maintenance. Frequent brushing, combing of the face, and keeping the topknot are just a few grooming requirements. The ears must also be kept clean, and the hair that grows in them must be plucked. For more detailed information about the Shih Tzu, please go to our links page!
