QUALITY, not quantity!

(From our "Reagan-themed" litter. Very typical JusWright puppies!)

We do not have any puppies at this time. We do not breed litters very often; only when we want a puppy for ourselves, and have pre-approved homes waiting for one of our puppies. We do not breed puppies just to sell. We are NOT a business. We do NOT sell our puppies for breeding purposes. In fact, we are VERY selective in choosing homes for them. If you can provide an exceptional home for a very special cocker puppy, and would like to be considered for our waiting list, send us an email and tell us about your family, and what you can offer that puppy. We also may know of other reputable breeders who may have puppies or older dogs available, and are always happy to refer them to the right families.

We also recommend contacting The American Spaniel Club Breeder Referral Contact Person, (also a friend of ours!) Diane Kepley at Westhaven@starpower.net

You may also want to look into a rescue group. This is a GREAT way to find a wonderful cocker companion! Go here: http://www.asc-cockerspaniel.org/breed/rescuegroups.asp for a list of Rescue groups.

Please do NOT buy from a pet store or puppy mill!! Why? Pet stores & mills sell puppies to make money ONLY. They are NOT interested in the health or happiness of the puppies they sell, or the best interest of their customers. They do NO buyer screening, and won't take the puppy back later on, should the owner decide they do not wish to keep it. This, in addition to impulse buys, contributes to puppies/dogs being left in pounds or rescues. Most pet store puppies are either from puppy mills, or breeders who are only interested in profit. (Caring breeders would never trust a pet store to place their puppies in the proper homes, since their only requirement is money!) Pet store/mill puppies have very little, if any, health care, and RARELY is there any genetic health testing performed on the parents. They are often taken from their mothers WAY too early, (gotta get them in that window before they grow up and aren't cute anymore!) before they receive critical training from their mother and littermates. They also are not given proper socialization, which all leads to MAJOR temperament & training problems. Think about it- a pet store is a BUSINESS. They don't put any more thought or concern into selling a living, breathing, vulnerable puppy than they do into selling a bag of dog food. You can learn more about the truth behind pet store puppies on our LINKS page.

How do you spot a puppy mill? A mill can be a large breeding operation, or even a private, in-home breeding operation. Basically, if a person or business has a large number of dogs, and produces a large number of litters, and does not seem to do anything else with their dogs, (showing, obedience, agility, etc) they are likely selling puppies for profits, and will cut corners in the care of those dogs to increase those profits. Another clue to a careless breeder is one whose only interest in you, and only screening of you, is if you can pay their prices, which are generally MUCH higher than those of a reputable breeder. Don't be tempted to "save" a pet store or mill puppy. This only gives the store/mill owner profit, which encourages them to continue to do mass breeding of inferior dogs. And, it prolongs the miserable life of a poor, sad, caged breeding dog whose only purpose in life is to make more puppies.

Trust your instincts. Be patient! Take the time to do lots of research, and look at several litters, and speak to several different breeders. A puppy is a big investment of your time, money, and most importantly, an emotional investment. Being wise in your decision on where to buy your next best friend will pay off with years of wonderful memories.
